As we move into 2026, I wanted to reflect on what has been a defining year in my surgical career — and to share where keyhole (minimally invasive) bunion surgery is heading next.
Bunion surgery has changed dramatically over the past decade. What was once associated with prolonged recovery, significant pain, and disruption to life has evolved into a precise, patient-centred procedure with predictable outcomes and faster rehabilitation.
2025 marked a major milestone in that journey.
A Landmark Year for Keyhole Bunion Surgery
In 2025, I performed over 350 keyhole bunion operations, placing me among the highest-volume keyhole bunion surgeons in the UK.
Over time, my practice has naturally evolved:
- Approximately 70% of my surgical workload is now focused on
keyhole and minimally invasive bunion correction - My work has shifted away from general foot surgery
towards high-volume specialist bunion care
This change has not been driven by trends or marketing — it has been driven by outcomes.

Why Outcomes Matter More Than Technique
I routinely use the Novastep / Enovis PECAPlasty fixation system, which allows:
- Powerful and stable correction
- Tiny skin incisions
- Preservation of soft tissues
- Early weight-bearing and faster recovery
With experience and refinement, I am now able to treat larger and more complex bunion deformities using keyhole techniques alone — cases that historically required open surgery.
This evolution is critical for patients who want effective correction without unnecessary surgical trauma.
The Rapid Bunion® Approach: More Than Surgery
My trademarked procedure, Rapid Bunion®, is not simply an operation.
It is a complete treatment pathway.
Unlike many minimally invasive bunion procedures that focus solely on surgical technique, Rapid Bunion® integrates:
A Holistic, Patient-Centric Model
- Thorough pre-operative assessment and planning
- A refined keyhole surgical technique
- Structured post-operative recovery protocols
- Clear education, rehabilitation, and expectation-setting
This end-to-end approach is what delivers smoother, faster, and more predictable recoveries for the vast majority of patients.

Outcomes That Matter to Patients
As techniques and protocols have matured, results have continued to improve.
Clinical Outcomes
- Very low complication rates
- Screw removal rate <2%, significantly reduced from early MIS experience
- Minimal post-operative pain
Pain & Recovery Benchmarks
- Over 95% of patients require no significant pain relief beyond 48 hours
- Most patients:
- Work from home within 48 hours
- Resume short commutes at 2 weeks
- Return to longer commutes by 3–4 weeks
- Begin gentle exercise at 10–14 days
- Resume higher-intensity exercise at 4–6 weeks
- Return to running and impact activity at 8–10 weeks
These outcomes are a key reason why I am increasingly treating younger, active patients, many of whom now choose early correction to prevent long-term joint damage.
A Growing International Keyhole Bunion Practice
In 2025, my practice expanded well beyond the UK.
I am now licensed to operate in the Cayman Islands, where I became the first surgeon to perform keyhole bunion surgery on the island.
The service has grown rapidly, attracting patients from:
- Mainland USA (particularly Florida and Miami)
- The British Virgin Islands
- Other Caribbean regions
I now travel to the Cayman Islands every 6–8 weeks, typically operating for a full week at a time. As in the UK:
- 70–80% of surgical work is keyhole bunion or minimally invasive foot surgery
- Keyhole bunion correction remains the flagship procedure
Back in the UK, patients routinely travel from England, Scotland, and Ireland for specialist minimally invasive bunion care.
Building the Right Team at Harley Street
At 17 Harley Street, I have developed a dedicated multidisciplinary team focused entirely on the bunion patient journey.
Over the past year, we have:
- Expanded written patient education resources
- Produced clear, patient-centred educational videos
- Improved guidance on recovery, mobility, and expectations
Working closely with my media and videography team, the aim has been simple:
educate, reassure, and empower patients at every stage of treatment.
Teaching, Innovation, and Global Standards
Another major milestone in 2025 was becoming a consultant surgeon for Novastep and Enovis.
In this role, I will be:
- Teaching advanced keyhole bunion techniques
- Training visiting orthopaedic and podiatric surgeons
- Sharing refined protocols with specialists worldwide
This marks an exciting new chapter — helping to raise global standards and expand access to safe, effective, minimally invasive bunion surgery.

Looking Ahead to 2026
2026 has already begun at a pace.
In the first two weeks alone, I performed over 20 keyhole bunion operations, all with excellent outcomes.
My focus for the year ahead includes:
- Continued refinement of Rapid Bunion®
- Hiring and mentoring an associate surgeon
- Gradual reduction of general clinical workload
- Near-exclusive focus on keyhole bunion surgery
- Prioritising long-term sustainability, fitness, and recovery
A Final Word on Bunions
Bunions affect up to one in four people.
The outdated advice to “wait until it’s unbearable” is no longer appropriate.
With modern planning and minimally invasive techniques:
- Function can be restored earlier
- Pain can be reduced sooner
- Long-term joint damage can often be prevented
- Disruption to life is far less than most patients expect
